how Lexington Coffee & Tea got started
In the early 1980’s, Terri Wood moved to Lexington, from Louisville, and started Lexington Coffee & Tea Co. in her garage on Armstrong Mill Road. She spent the next year working to build a customer base by offering roasted 100% Arabica coffee that she was grinding and packaging by hand. By the end of the first year Lexington Coffee & Tea had outgrown the garage and moved to Regency Road where the roasting and packaging plant began operating. By the end of the 80’s Terri’s husband Jeff, and her parents Bob and Gloria Walker, joined her and the company became a real family business.
Thankfully, the Lexington business and restaurant community welcomed the availability of our high quality fresh roasted coffee. We are still located on Regency Road and pride ourselves in continuing the same artisanal approach of roasting and packaging that we were founded on. Even though we are not open to the public daily you can visit Coffee Times, a coffee house Terri opened in 1983, which is located in the front of the roasting plant. There you can purchase fresh roasted coffees, teas, and related products and gifts, as well as ordering from the espresso bar, which offers specialty food and drinks.
OUR COFFEE PHILOSOPHY
Our mission has always been, and will always be, to provide the highest quality, freshest, Arabica beans available from around the world. We roast each bean, considering its country of origin, with the intent of enhancing its characteristics to the fullest. This method allows us to offer lighter roasts, city roasts and darker roasts like Vienna, French and Italian Espresso. We have been blending different roasts and country of origins together since the beginning and it truly sets us apart from other coffee businesses, big and small.
